*** I AM ONLY TAKING CHILDREN'S BOOK CLIENTS. PLEASE REFER TO THE UTAH FREELANCE EDITORS FOR SOME WONDERFUL EDITORS!
Writing can be your greatest adventure, but it can also be stressful.
If you have finished writing a book, an article, or have a great idea you need help flushing out, you have already beaten the odds and come to the write place. (Yes, pun intended). I am a trained editor and writing coach, and I am here to help bring out the best in you and your writing. I specialize in the wonderful world of children's literature (picture books, middle grade, and all the articles and stories in-between).
Maybe you are hoping to traditionally publish, or self-publish, or maybe just refine your skills as a writer and storyteller. Perfect! One of my most favorite things to do is work with authors and help them shape and develop their stories. Whether it be a novel that has been simmering for twenty years or a short article that needs a little extra TLC, I am your girl—here to help bring out the best in you and your writing.
My personal experience will help you be successful!
You see, I’ve played double agent as an acquisitions editor at Cedar Fort Publishing and Media and an author. This secret spy experience has helped me learn how to polish a manuscript and query letter, attract the attention of an editor or agent, and navigate the world of publishing.
Having edited a host of articles, essays, and books, I have the editorial skills to help your work achieve its potential. Each work and writer presents specific needs that must be addressed individually. Please contact me here for a customized quote and battle plan!
How do you know if I am the right writing coach or editor for you?
It is so important for you to choose a writing coach and editor that you feel comfortable with and who understands your goals. It is also important that you choose someone who has experience in your genre. Please contact me to set up a free 15-minute writing consultation. I want to make sure that my editing and coaching style fits your expectations and that your project is something I am excited to tackle.
Here is a list of genres within children's literature that I love:
- Fantasy (and I don’t mind a bit of science fiction either)
- Contemporary fiction
- Historical fiction
- Nonfiction
- Children’s picture books
- Unique and cool blends of genres
- Articles (kind of their own genre…)
I will not accept political rants, horror, or erotica. I am a firm believer in increasing the amount of clean literature in the world. If your book has lots of language, sexual content, or terrible gore, I will not be a good fit for you.

Free 15-minute consultation—We will discuss your goals and how I can help you achieve them!
Editing
Free 3-page edit of your book--I do not offer this service for articles or children’s picture books, but I do for books! This will include track changes with helpful tips.
Query or book proposal critique ($30 depending on length)—This critique will give you some solid tips to help your query or book proposal stand out and look professional. I offer a content edit and then, if you want, a copy edit, which edits for grammatical mistakes.
For a quote on your children’s picture book or article edits, please contact me with your word count, sample, and whether you want just content editing, copy editing, or both.
Partial edit ($92)—Send in 5,000 words of any section (though what you send me needs to be from the same section) for a content edit (also known as a substantive edit). I naturally do a bit of grammar checking along the way. I can’t help it. This option includes a letter with tips and resources to help you on your journey. I will check the following things:
- Flow/organization
- Characterization
- Setting
- Dynamic dialog
- Tight descriptions
- Tension
- Publishability (though there is no guarantee)
- Basic grammatical or sentence structure errors
This option does not include a in-depth copy edit, but if you want the content edit and a following copy edit, I will offer a 10% discount on my copy editing service.
Full edit ($0.022 per word)—I will happily review your full manuscript and do a content edit and a basic grammar check (just like the partial edit). I will also include a letter with tips and resources for you.
This option does not include a in-depth copy edit, but if you want the content edit and a following copy edit, I will offer a 10% discount on my copy editing service.
Copy edit ($.013 per word)—This is what many people feel they cannot do—make sure all the grammar, spelling, style, and punctuation are polished. But don’t worry. I can tackle this bear for you. This is an important option for self-publishing or indie authors! Annihilate those typos!
Proofreading ($.013 per word)—This is the last step of the editorial process. I will read through your text and make sure there are no typographical errors, layout/design errors, or formatting errors. This is an important option for self-publishing or indie authors!
All edits will be done in Microsoft Word using track changes
Coaching
30-minute coaching session ($20)—We will discuss your goals, challenges, and your book! This time is all yours and I am more than happy to answer any questions you have about writing and publishing!
60-minute coaching session ($40)—Sometimes you just need to explain your story and get help with your plot, setting, characters, etc. I am here to help you out of tight corners and unravel the mystery of publishing. I have worked with many authors to help them construct and develop their books. Some people like to jump in and see what happens, but other people like to plan it out and avoid as many pitfalls and mistakes as possible.
Bi-weekly coaching sessions ($125)—If you are ready to overcome writer’s block, plot hiccups, or fear of tackling your writing dream, let’s set up a consistent time to meet so you can conquer your fears (and writer’s block) and write that book you’ve had humming in your mind! This package includes two 30-minute coaching sessions per month, up to a 5,000-word edit, and email support! I also offer 10% discounts on full edits for authors who chose this option. This is a great way to stay accountable and develop a consistent writing habit.
