Welcome, Friend! Check out my services here!

The Accidental Author

Picture
I have always wanted to be an author, but becoming an author of a cookbook was an accident. Not many people have the opportunity to sit in or participate in a pitch meeting at a publishing house—especially as an author whose work is being pitched. I’ve had the opportunity four times.

Sure, call me lucky—or stupid.

As an acquisition editor at Cedar Fort, I had the opportunity every Tuesday to stand in front of a committee and give a heavily researched book report that could potentially be a  $10,000 investment for the company. Read more.

Query Letter Tips

Picture
If you are ready to tackle the query letter mountain, congratulations! That means you have finished your manuscript and believe it has something unique to offer the world. More books are published every year than ever before. The competition for readers’ time has never been more intense. It might seem difficult to write something that stands out—that demands attention—and that readers are willing to sacrifice their time to read. BUT it happens every day. However, the success of a book relies heavily on the author—and some strategy and possibly a bit of luck (but we will discuss those another day). YOU must believe your book will benefit and interest the world of readers—that it is unique enough that you would be willing to put money down to send it out into the world. If you aren’t that committed. Stop now.

But if you are willing—then follow these tips while writing your query letters. Read more.

Hello! I'm Chelsea Jackson.

Picture
I love reading stories, writing stories, and especially helping writers create and perfect their own stories. I've been on the inside and outside of publishing as an editor at a publishing house and an author. Now that I have personal experience within the publishing industry, I have a unique understanding to offer authors who want to get published.

I graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in English and a minor in editing and now I work as an author, freelance writer and editor, and writing coach.

I live in Provo, Utah and enjoy water fights and nerf gun wars with my best friend and husband, William Jackson.
